SSH39 EARLY TYPE

Before falling back to the use of the cloth liner of previous Ssh36 type, some experiments for the  adoption of a German-style liner were done. Though, leather was costly to manufacture so a very short production of black oilcloth liners was tried, then quickly discarded as unreliable. See “Russian helmets: from Kaska to Stalshlyem 1916-2001” by Robert W. Clawson. This rare example is one of the few oilcloth liner, 3 rivets, Ssh39. It was at some point overpainted black, many traces are still clearly visible. Liner and chinstrap are in fair condition, the shell is marked POCT 2  (size medium), A M3 (the factory of production, in this case Leningrad Metallurgical Factory) and 40 r (the year of production 1940).
