AUSTRIAN BERNDORFERThis was the only steel helmet of exclusive Austrian design produced by Austro-Hungary during WW1. The total production was of about 140.000 helmets, manufactured by Arthur Krupp A. G. Berndorf. The standard non-reflective brown paint is retained on 99% of the helmets. The liner is like the German type, made of three brown leather pads attached to a metal band held in place by three screws. They have pockets to take the pad cushions. Cushions are missing. The chinstrap is of woven material, reinforced by leather and fitted with the typical clamp buckle. Size is a wide 66 as we can read on the stamped metal. Original, complete and in great condition, this is one of the best example of Berndorfer still surviving and would make great display in an advanced collection.
