YUGOSLAVIAN PARA REISSUED M33

This is a very uncommon, hard to find helmet. It is a standard Italian M33 with the rim crudely cut, used by Yugoslavian Paratroopers. Soon after WW2 the newborn Yugoslavian Army, to face the shortage of military gear, utilized mostly German and Italian captured items. It is documented the use of standard M33 and also the practice to cut the rim to German M35 to supply Paratroops. Not much is known though about their number or the year of reissue, surely immediately post-war (1946-1948). The shell has the typical light green color of the Yugoslavian armed forces painted over the original grey-green. The original Italian chinstrap was substitued with one with a snap fastener button, probably more suitable for the paratroops use.
